Dear Sit,—I entirely agree with your observations as to the manner in which the Exhibition at Georgetown was conducted and arranged. Allow me now to give some suggestions to the men in authority, who- ever they are, as to the Horticulture and

l'loriculture; for those are my chief ins terest,

that takes the prize in our Exhibitions, is that which has the longest bleched stalk. This is certainly wrong. All people who love this vegetable know that the part nearest ihe root is the most crisp and most delioately flavoured; and this is the reason that the ‘ Boston Market” is almost uni- versally preferred in the United States. It grows short and very thick at the root. Yet, such celery as this would have no chance at our shows.

Secondly, the squashes that take the prizes here, are the largest and heaviest, and they are the ‘ Mammouth’’—the ‘* Mammoth Chile” or the ‘‘ Chile. These -quashes are never used for the table. No One cowld eat them, unless very hungry. They are grown in the States entirely for stock. The proper squash for the table are divided into two varities; the early and the late, or winter keeping, Perbaps, of ‘ll the early sorts, the “early summer bush crookneck’ should have;the first place, and of the late, the “ Boston Marrow” and ‘*Cubbard.” Weshould have three prizes instead of one for squashes : first, for the early summer sort, the best winter keep= ng, and the large sorts for cattle.

Third, the -‘ Parsnips.” The long, nar- row, clean parsnip should take the prize, not the great thick thing that is only fit for the pigs.

‘Fourth, beets should be black and clean. with smal! taper roots, not large.

[ will content myself with these four different sorts of vegetables, as they are the ones in which our Judges are the most ikely to go wrong with. In fact, the main thing is to have good Judges. At the last show I noticed. for one example, that a large Pumpkin took the prize for best squash, and a large yellow squash took the prize for best pumpkin. No doubt this was only a slip upon the part of the Judges; but still more discouraging for

hose who take an interest in their gardens. As to the flowers, the difficulty of obtain- ing good judges is still greater. Such « thing as good flowers is hardly known in P. E. Island. In fact they are only grown by
