Macdonald, waited upon him at the Parochial house, Tignish, and on behalf of his congregation, presented him with a handsome Grand Duke chair aad a student's lamp as a Christmas gift. The gift was ac- companied by an address, to which the rev. ventieman feelingly responded. The chair, which was manufactured in the establishment of Mr. John Newson, is designed and up- holstered in the Turkish order, with fine steel springs in the back, seat and arms. Both seat and back are covered with colibre boxing, ruffled in cardinal silk plush, and the seat, back and arms are beautifuily fringed. The colors all blend harmoniously Znd the chair looks the very essence of luxury. Returns from the constituencies not heard from last night are in. In North Essex Pacand’s election is doubtful, White’s friends claiming that he has a majority. Assuming that Pacand is elected the next House will stand? Reformers, including two members for east and west Algoma, (elections for which take place next spring) 56; Conservatives 32; Independent 1; Labor I. Now that the election fever has abated the people are beginning to think that Mowat has not achieved such a_ bril- liant victory after all, _In the last house he had, on a straight party vote, aamajority of 19. Cornwall, one of the Conservative seats, and created two new Reform seats, one in Toronto and one in Bruce.
