German Riots Take Heavy Toll

BERLIN, July 20. -— (A. P.) _. Bloody political brawls which nave kept Germany in turmoil for sev- eral weeks impelled the Pedcral Government today to forbid all outdoor pmcessi and dimen- striations. DUBLIN, July 20.-(Cana.dian Press Goblin-Without a division the sennte of theIrish Free State lmllsht passed the second readinl of the measure ‘empowering the republican governmen to impose duties of any amount on British Products, and rejected a “ n to take up the remaining stages of the bill tonight.

The bill was introduced by the government as an answer to the British duties on Free State goods in effect since July l5.

As a money bill the measure could not possibly be blocked by the Senate, but the President Ea- mon De Valera rose to its defence in the'debate tonight. The Free State constitution permits a min- ister to speak in either House.

"I have gone out of my way to meet the British," declared Mr. De Valera. “I have done everything possible except surrender the rights of the Irish people, and I am not going any further." He desired to avoid suffering in Great Britain as well as Ireland, but he declined to continue paying "the enormous tribute" of 5,000,000 pounds a year.

The President agreed the only way out of the dlspwe was by ar- bitration. “But let us have no re.- striction on the composition of the tribunal,“ he exclaimed. In his view the principle laid down by the British Government on this point completely misrepresented the whole intention oi the peoples gathering at the Imperial Econom- ic Conference.

Driven to seek alternative mar- kets, people oi the Free Stats who had been hungry would hunger no longer, declared Mr. De Valera, for there would be more food in the country and it was the business oi the Government to see that hun- gry mouths were fed.

LOS ANGELES, July 20.-The m. mance oi Mrs. Minnie (Ma) Ken- nedy, mother oi the evangelist, Aimee Sample McPherson-Hutton, and Guy Edward Hutton, came to an end today when she signed a divorce complaint.

Referring to her life with Hud- son, whom she married a year ago in a moonlit ceremony on the banks oi a lake in Washington State, Mrs. Kennedy said he owed her $4,200. His demand for money, she said, had ruined her bank roll --"old sock," she called it.
