Regional High Schools &Land Valuation Board Provided For In Bill

Provision ior establishment o! regional high schools in Prince Bid/ward Island is made in a bill amending the Public School Act which was given second reading in the Legislature on Saturday. It was moved mto committee by Premier Jo es.

Towards the cost of site, bulld- ing and equipment oi such schools the Provincial Government is authorized to pay 50 per cent, also 25 per cent oi the ‘ cost oil main- tenance and operation. In ex- plainling this provision Premier Jones said the teachers would also be entitled to supplements.

The bill makes provision for a Land Valuation Board, and ior revaluation by the Board od reg- ional high school areas or other districts making application.

It authorizes the lviinlster oi Education to direct the holding oi ofilcial meetings in achooi districts concerned, where a ior- mal vote may be taken. Id a. majority oi the qualified voters in each oi not less than two- thlrds oi the clistricLs comprising the high school area iavor the establishment o! a regional high school, the project may be pro- ceeded with. lsi the required ma.- jority of districts are Iavorable to the plan, the dissenting districts mast coniorm.

Saturday night Marshall in a statement assumed responsibility for abandonment oi the Palestine partition plan and the proposal to seek peace in the Holy Land under a United Nations trustee- ship.

Marshall's statement brought out what oiilclals here have been saying privately since the trustee- ship proposal was put forward by the United States.
