The wages are better, the home is better, the fredom and liberty are double in one what they are in theother. If, instead of the sham service that is given by ignorant and really overpaid servants to-day, sensible girls who are auxiousto be taking care of themselves and earning good wages, would fit themselves at the cooking schools, any way they found available they would not long wait fer employment and would be valued im- mense'y by their employers. When one realizes how hard it is to find good women for every kind of work in our houses, and what prices many rich people are more than willing to pay if they can be well suited, it isa wonder more girls are notready toseize the chances. It is because such work has been almost always so carelessly and badly done, that it has fallen into dis- repute, and thedoersof it have taken such low rank. Nobody takes the trouble to fit herself properly, but women trust to being taught, and find- ing out their duties after they assume such positions, not before— Sara O. Tg grasp the right mo~ ment in our lives is of so much worth to us; to enjoy the prattle of our chil- dren even in the midst of daily anxieties andall the hurry of a busy life; to take the time tosmile and answer with the kindest words the friends who sometimes inierrupt our work, and, as we are apt to sey, wastes our day. How much better to do this now rather than to cry out in later year for the im- possible; to say, “Oh, for one hour with my little chiidren!” when they have become men and women, and are beyond our reach, and we are left re- membering the many hours in which we were not patient with their li'tle hindering ways, and in which we did not grasp the possibilities of happiness, Then, in very homely ways, to gras the flying moments is profitable; to| care for ail the material interests of the | household when they should be cared for ; to putupthe ripe fruit before it has time to soften ; to mend the little holes in stockings, the rips in gloves.
