for, exposed to the S shore, the next storm would surely wreak equal havoa The W J—trap was nearly completely demolished. Of the E trap, there was n sign. We had hoped to be able to salvage a few items. Some hope. The stove lay submerged in the pond as did one of the oil heaters. Surprisingly, the incinerator, basically a modified oil drum was within feet of its original site. Two mist nets, wrapped in their plastic bags, were found on the N beach. Each was clearly labelled “trashed: use for parts only". The good nets had been stored at the cottage. And that was all - everything else had vanished without a trace.

"What does the future hold for the tip and our operations there? We have a unique 25 year database from the station. It must be continued if at all possible. We must also continue to provide the opportunity for visi- tors to experience a unique and beautiful area, whether to participate in our programmes or follow some other interest.

"Our intention is to maintain a presence at the tip next spring, necessarily in spartan accommodation, not only to continue the migration monitoring, but also to research carefully a location for the new cabin. The former cabin was never designed for residential use. We hope, if funds permit, to provide a higher standard of comfort in the new building to include inside plumbing and electricity. Please help us achieve our goal. Let us also hope and pray for a return to "sensible" lake levels, so that there will still be a Long Point to visit."

To rebuild the field station and upgrade other facilities, the LPBO's Board of Directors has established a special Building Fund, with a target of $200,000. They hope to receive half of that amount from LPBO members and individual donors.
