When Mr. Thorpe andjhis aseistants went to work bed-rock was encountered at the surprisiog depth of 12 to 18 feet, +even wells being sunk. Noth nz more was done as this depth would not permit of the “driven well” system. Buta ctizenof Pietou is said to be about to present & feasible proposition to obtain water the cheapest: and soon Pictou may have a setizfactory water sys- tem of its own.
