Tue Wheat Yrerp.—The St. Paul, Min- nesota, Pioneer Press has collected statistics of the wheat yield in the Northwestern States covering an area producing about a fifth of the total quantity raised in the United States. Instead of last year's yield of 100,000,000 busbels in this district, there will be 60,000, - 000. The average crop of Dakota for the year is given at ten bushels per acre, while that of Minnesota is a little less. The frost extended into seventeen counties out of forty-six report- edin Dakota, and into ten out of thirty- seven in Minnesota. One county in the latter State reports a yield of three bushels to the acre, and several eight bushels or under. —P ee

The ¢rops in Maine.

The Bangor Commercial says that the most discouraging reports concerning the crops come from all quarters of the state. It says that information comes from an out- lying town that some families have not raised a thing upon which to subsist the coming year, and many of the best farmers are not harvesting enough to supply their wants till another harvest comes round, and that what is true of this town is true of others. The hay crop is below the average, though generally got in in prime condition. The turnip and beet crops promise well, and up to the time of the heavy frost all vegetables promised well. Of squashes, pumpkins and garden vegetables there seems to be an abundance. The grain crop wculd in any case have been a partial fail- ure, and was further reduced by the frost. Beans have suffered greatly, but there will probably be enough saved for home con- sumption. Potatoes are rotting both in the ground and out ot it, and the shortage is estimated at thirty per cent. of the en- tire crop. Fields of late grain have been rendered worthle a8 by the recent rains.
