Fewer Donors ” Al Alberlon Blood Clinic A

For the first time Alberton'a Red Crola blood donor clinic was held in the afternoon and result: were rather disappointing, the number of donors being smaller than at any of the previous peacetime clinics. Thin decrease is doubtleu due to the fact that haymnklng in into thin year and farmer: felt they could not leave their field: even for no worthy I cause u a blood donor clinic.

The one encouraging feature of yesterday's clinic is that there were twelve new donors among the thirty-nine who volunteered. Three of those who were willing to donate were rejected no only thirty-six bottles of blood were obtained.

Donors listed by school districts were as follows: Alberton-15 (one of these rejected). Montroae- 6. South Klldare-4 (one of these rejected). Elmsdale--4 (one re- jected. Alma-3. Dock-3. Mill River-1. Other communities out- side the area-3.

Dr. W. P. Earle was in charge of the clinic. Lunch was provided by members of Mill River and Montrosc Women's Institutes. Al- berton Institute permitted the use of their hall, provided tea and served the refreshments. Mrs. Eric Corbett, R.N., assisted the clinic staff and Mrs. A. C. Green acted as registrar. Several young men of the town gave assistance in unloading the clinic equipment.

Visiting Anglers Have Good Luck

A group of sportsmen anglers from sackvilic, N. 13.. had rath- er good luck yesterday in this Province.

Dr. Hert Hirtle landed ll five and one-quarter pound rainbow trout at scales Pond, Freetown. A com- panion. Clem Leger, caught a two pound, three ounce rainbow. The third member of the party, Alex Richard. failed to land a big one. but contented himself with recall- ing that last year in the same area he landed a six-pound rainbow.

The men had a. small boat with outboard motor with them, and fished from it. The type of fly they used was not learned.

Two Barns Burned Al Cascumpec

A barn and I largo hen house. the property of Mr. Harold Ashley of Cucumpec, were destroyed yes-

terday aftemon by B fire which apparently spread from the smoulde lug ashes of a pile of

brush burned the previous day on a nearby form. A high wind caus- aeverai hay fields and a spark is believed to have ignited the barn although the blaze was still some distance away.

The Alberton Fire Department was called to the scene as it was feared that the oonflagratlon might spread to the unoccupied house nearby. owned by Mr. John Ashley now of Charlottetown. A large Hall threaher was also lost. in the flames. It iii not known if any insurance was carried.

-The July meeting of Augustine Cove Women's Institute was held at the home of Mrs. Bruce Camp- bell on July 3rd. The meeting opened by singing the "Institute Ode" followed by the "Creed" in

unison. Roll call was responded to by 18 membe paying 5 cents each for those wearing glasses

and 10 for those not wearing glasses. from which the sum of 51.15 was realized. There were three visitors present.

The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved and it was moved and seconded to pay for putting a cement floor in the basement of the school.

Mrs. Priscilla MacF'adyen was appointed to see about entertain- ing the Holman picnic and Mrs. Alban Gaudet auctioned off the two premium blankets, for which 510.50 was received. Reports of committees were then heard and new ones appointed as follows:-

Roll call was answered with ”Whiat I dislike most about house- work". and minutes of the June meeting were read and approved. Plans were made to have an ice- cream social in the schoolhouse on Monday, July 7th, and com- mlttees were appointed to make the necessary arrangements.

The sick committee reported making several sick calls, and the school committee bought supplies for the school and a treat for the children at the school picnic.
