Private des- patches from Cuba repeat the story that 250 Americans and 250 Cubans recently landed at Guanabacoa, under the command of the insurgeut leader Lacret. The Committee of the whole House made fair progress with the Franchiee Bill. A large number of amendments were found necessary to make the act workable, ana until the bill, as repaired, is printed it will be hard to kvow how mach has been changed.
Mr. Corbins band and the Grand Trunk people, who have been camping on the ground with theintention of trying to restore the Kettle River bill to its place on order paper, are said to have given up the game. They fou-dt a‘ they could not get vot s enough.

Her Machinery Badly Damaged.
Boston, April 28.—A special to the Herald from Washingion says: “The firet accident to tefall the big fleet operating in the Cuban blockade has happened to the machinery of the torpedo boat @ushing, which has been so badly injured that she will not be of service again fora month or six weeks, From official information that nas been received by the pavy department from the commandant at Key West station it seems that the entire starboard section / of the machinery bas been wrecked. The Herreshoffs, who built the boat, have been directed to prepare the necessary castings at once for shipment to Key West, and the repair shops have been ordered to get ready to push ahead the work, in order that the Cushing may rejoin the fleet at the earliest possible moment.
