Tae Steam Tug Henry Aitken was yesterday launched from her winter quarters. " She has been nicely renevated, and is now ready for the Summer's work.

Mr. H. V. DesRocues, Eugrossing Clerk of the House of Assembly, was attacked yes- terday on Great George street by a ferocious bull-dog, and narrowly escaped being bitten.

‘Tue steamer Princess of Wales arrived from Picton yesterday evening at 7 o'clock, with a large quantity of freight and a number of pas- sengers. The Captain reports Pictou harbor clear of ice, but as yet there has been no ar- rivals from sea.

We would call the attention of the city authorities to the very dangerous state of the sidewalk, between Beale’s Corner and Knight's Bakery, on Great George Strect. There. are also several other places where the sidewalks are in a very unsafe condition, but the place above referred to is most dilapidated and dangerous to pedestrians.

Os the 15th inst., a small riot occurred among a number of the members of Alexander Division of (so00d Templers, at Lot 48,and four of those who took part appeared for trial be- fore Theoph. DesBrisay, Esq., today. The scene at the Division Room, on the occasion, was most disgraceful. Thirty witnesses were examined, and judgment was witheld till Monday.

Sap Accrornr.—A young man named PDon- ald MecLure, son of Alexander McLure, met with a severe accident on Friday afternoon. while engaged in Dixon’s Saw Mill, Breadal- bane. He caught in the machinery and was whirled around the wheels several times. His leg is broken in several places between th: aie and hip. Drs. Darrach and Robertson were sels sent for. They set the broken bones; and hope for the best.

GENTLEMEN, —I thank you sincerely for the very Hattering address with which you have presented me. It was received as unexpect- edly as it was welcomel. I do not consider that I fully deserve the enconiums you are pleased to lavish upon me. When the Gov- ernment of this Province detailed me for ser- vice at Alberton I went unhesitatingly, deter- mine l, by God’s help, to use every effort to eradicate from your midst the prevailing epi- demic of small-pox. In accomplishing this, I wish t> bear testimony to the very valuable assistance rendered me by the Alberton Board of Health.

I did nothing more than was my duty under the cir.unstances. In this I can assure you l w 3 actuated more by alove ofg ny profession thau for pecuniary gain. Ortawa, April 25. It is expected that the new Insolvent Bill will come up for discussion in the House on Tuesday next.

Dr. Bergin has given notice of a Bill to regulate the employment of young children and young women in mills and factories. The new weights and measures Act, in- troduced in the Honse yesterday afternoon, contains a number of changes in regard to; the standards; but the principal provisions are doing away with the deputy inspectors. power of appoint ment of Provincial inspectors, given before, power is given to appvint assistants ; also, the inspectors may appoint in- spectors of districts from time to time, as found necessary. Officers of the Inland Revenue Department way also be appoint- ed district inspectors, and shall discharge the duties of their office in conjnunuetion with it, in addition to their regular work.

Several changes are made in regard to the penalties to be imposed. The penalty for having false or unjust weights and measures, or for frand in the use of false Weights, shall be a fine not exceeding 25 lollars ; in case of a second offence, 50 dollars.
