A fire which started in the Unien O11 Compiny store threatened to destroy the entire wholesale business section of Milwaukee east of Milwaukee River, below Huron Street. But it was got under con- trol at 11 45 last nigh*. Losurancs men estimate that the entire loss will aggregate $7,000,000.

Orrawa, Ort. 27.—Unoffizial returns of Canadian trade for the first quarter of the present fivcal year, compared with the same period last year, show an increase of exports of five and three quarter miliions, and du'y one half millien it will be noticed that the export trade last year was 16 per cent. over the previous year, and that the first quarter of this year shows the sane per centage of increase over last year.

In Saratoff there have been 31,- 000 case*, 11,000 deaths; and in St. Petersburg 3,300 cases and 1,150 deaths, making in these three districts aione a total of 159,300 cases and 77,000 deaths Three weeks ago the dis- ease broke out in Warsaw and since that time 200 deaths have occurred in that city.

The town has been in open rebellion egainst the federal government for come time on account of excessive taxation, extortion by federal officials and government ipterference with the people’s religious practices. Two months ago @ battalion sent to subdue the un- ruly Tomochies waa repulsed by the latter and forced to retreat, Two weeks ago (he govern- ment sent 1200 men to Tomechie and on Mon- day they made an at)ack upon the town, The slaughter was terrible. The soldiers lost 368 of their namber and miny were wounded.
