What Necessitates These Issues ?

This article is a con- tinuation of the attack on the tenure system. The university was & supposedly is, and I use the term with some hesitency, established for the benefit of the students. Thats you and me and anyone else who takes courses. we should have an equal say in who does the teaching at this ins- titution. The tenure committee is set up so we have the least possible voice but also that we do. have a voice.

The incompetants who are teaching at this university are an outrage not only to

~the students, but the university as a whole. The people who have tenure were, in all likelihood, very competent people when they received tenure. The problem is that there is

no more risk for theSe individuals. You can use the same notes you have been using for 20 years, you can listen to the com— plaints of the student and laugh. You can laugh because you have a life appointment As a tenured member you can

The possibility of losing your tenure is there but how many times has that been used? There would be such a roar from faculty about such a happening that it would probably be one of the few times mem— bers of the faculty comm— unicated with one another.

The tenure system protects nothing but incometence. Because of the level of incompetence that is prev— alent at this university it can only be passed down to the people who take the courses.

_The continuation of the tenure system can only propagate the high level of incompetence which is already rampant at this university. The tenure system must change so that we, the students, have a say.

As was stated before,I believe that the system should be comprised of 4 faculty and 4 students. The time for incompetentS' judging incompetents must come to an end. The student comes here to Learn. The only thing that can be learned from an incompet‘ ent is further incompetence. Demand that the tenure system be changed!
