Place: Provincial Health Building, 3rd floor, Room 47 & 48. (Enter through underground garage on west side of the Provincial Administrative Building).

Program: Russell Irvine, a member of this society, will speak at the

February meeting. He is general manager of the Conservation and Outdoor Recreation Branch of the Dept. of Tourism. His subject will be "Provincial Parks and Their Future".

As well, Kathy Martin will show some slides taken during a January jaunt down the Morell River. This illustrated canoe trip should give members a greater empathy with one of the Island's few remaining wild rivers.

ANNOUNCEMENTS;

The nature slide competition results will not be made known before the March meeting. The competition organizer, Mr. Wendall MacKay, is unable

to attend the February meeting because of official duties out of the province.

The Society's copies of "Nature Canada", "Ontario Naturalist", "Young Naturalist" should be returned to each meeting. To speed up

circulation, it would be a good idea to pass them along to other members between meetings.

The Natural History Society is planning to write and present a brief on future land use considerations to the Land Use Commission. The first draft of the brief will be read at the February meeting and members will be asked for additional comments and suggestions. Each one of you is encouraged to present a personal brief, either written or spoken. After all, it is in your own best interests!

We are about to lose a valued member. Joan Saunders has been chief naturalist at Prince Edward Island National Park for the past two years. She leaves early in February to become head naturalist at Terra Nova National Park in Newfoundland. In honor of her contributions to the society, we presented her with a picture of a winter scene in Milton, taken by one of our members, Margaret Mallett.
