For the first time in the history of the town its citizens will have the op- portunity of skating on a real. honest-to-goodness artificial ice skating arena. The opening cere- monies will be held in Civic Stad- ium Ttlonday afternoon. and a large attendance or our citizens is ex- pected.

The sea cadet band will be in attendance and will play for ten skating sessions. All skating en- thusiasts will certainly be present. and even those of our citizens who do not skate won't want to miss taking in the celebration of such an historic occasion. All proceeds will go towards the maintenance of the minor hockey program, and who is there who does not recog- nize the value of such service to the youth of our town? Attendance at this function is a ”must”, folks. Ymi will have an opportunity of seeing all the improvements that have been effected at Civic Stad- ium and of listening to the stirring band music as the skaters whirl around on the blades.

The leaders of the minor hockey program in Summerside have dec- lided to abandon the plan of (livid- fing the ice surface into three rinks for the pee-wees and paperwciizhts this winter. After playing on these abbreviated rinks all winter it has been found that the kids are some- what lost when they tackle other teams on the whole ice surface. The plan was tried in the hope that the youngsters wotild learn to stick-handle in the smaller rinks, but tthe congestion was such that Houdini himself would have trouble merging from the pack with the puck on his stick. Stick- handling has lost some of its ef- fectiveness in the modern game passing and ability to take a pass seems to have superseded the old
