London, Oct 14.—The War Offize has received the following despatch from the general commanding the Cape forces:

Care Towy, Oct, 13,1.49 p, m.-—An armored train from Mafeking escorting twoseven pounder guns sent from here to Mafeking was aiticked last night at Krafxpav. Appsreatly a rai] had been removed. The train left the track and the Boers fired iato it with artillery for half , 40 hour and captured it.

Telegraph communication with Mafe-~ king is interrupted at Krafxpan.

The woman and children have been sent to Cape Town. The guns referred to be~ long tothe Colory- They are light and au old pattern. We have no details as to casualties.”

Orrawa, Oct. 14.-—The Government announces that 1000 men will be sent to the Transvaal, Canada paying transpor- tation to point of debarkatioa for Africa, where the regiment will be merged witb,

There is no mention of psy, so it looks ag if this were a compromise with Mr. Tarte. The regiment will probably sail on the 31st inst. The highest officer will be a Major.

The movement is to be entirely a volun~ teer one. Number of ¢fficers and men de- termined on is 1000,—which is a much larger number than that supplied by any othercolony of the Empire. The Military Department will immediately provide arms and equipment for the necessary forces, The commanding Officers of she various corps throughout Canada will be asked to Obtain the names of volunteers to be for~ warded to the Minister of Militia.

Only men in the very vest physicial con- dition will be accepted and w& preference will be given to good marksmen.

It is expected for obvious reasons that chiefly unmarried men will form the con- tingent.

On their arrival in South Africa they will be received into the Imperial army znd will come uoder Imperial army regu- Jations. The enroilment will commence at once.
