People of literature always argue that any writing needs a purpose. Basically their argument is correct, and so this editorial has not one, but two purposes.
The first of these is to comment upon the recent inauguration ceremony for new president, Dr. Ken 'Ozmon of St: Mary's University. Dr. Ozmon spent more than a few years at UPEI and rose to the lofty height of Dean of Arts.v At the same time he made a hefty contribution to our academic lives and was an outstanding citizen. Now he has moved on to greater things, and we are happy for his success. It is success, that with the inauguration on October 12, is now irreversible. Mickey Place, who attended the ceremony, says it was a grand affair, and.well it should be considering the calibre of the new president. The St. Mary's gain is our loss, but it is comforting that in this case at least, the nice guy didn't finish last.
My second purpose is to stress the importance and magnitude of UPEI's upcoming Symposium '79. This is an event arranged by students for November 6th and 7th, and it will rank high in Canadian university history. No similar forum for discussing university education has ever happened in Canada. The group running the SymPOSium have a publicity campaign in this Sun and the next. I don't want to steal their thunder by editorially promoting their event, but l do want to emphasize what a crucially important event this is. It demands our attendance, and having said that, I'll see you there.

The author left herself wide open to criticism in several areas. of socialism and democracy Were conveniently left Out. Socialism is a stage between capitalism and communism in which the
control the country. Democracy is a government
in which the people have ruling power either directly or through representatives. Kate can no more label us
people, using representatives,
capitalists than we can call Albanions pure communists. Concerning. the "one party" ruling or supposedly representing Albanians, a reliable source mentioned that, "If an administrator party is incompetant then
forms of industrial anarchy may appear that are simply unthinkable in decentralized systems. When such things originate and are supported by the authority the resulting chaos can do more harm than all the disharmony and competition endemic
in the capitalist system. Also a centralized economy is more open to danger from. its bureaucracy. If
it is badly managed it can lose its flexibility _ administration becomes unyeilding and ineffective."
Although the author men- tioned many of Canada's problems, she presumed that Socialism, is the one and only
cure. Is it really? Also, in Canada, if we are ruled by the supposedly rich, it's not because we have no '"choice".
Finally, I'm very cur- ious as to how large that ,' delegation from P.E.I. has, for the author was very ambef iguous about it.
