Serious Accipent.—The friends of Mr. Henry Rackham, the well-known con- tractor and builder, will near with regret that he met with a serious accident at New Glasgow afew days ago. Ii seems that whileMr. Rackham was at work on @ building belonging to his brother the ecaffolding upon which hewas stand -

ing gave way and he fellto the ground. His collar bone was dislocated, two ribs

broken aud he was aleo injured nally. His condition is so serious that it is at present impossible to bring him to bis home in Charlottetown. Dr. Douglass «doing all in his power to facilitate Mr. Rackham’s recovery.

commander of the Gloucester, was execa tive officer of the Maine at the time ofthe disaster and it was hie ship that sank two Spanish tospedo boat destroyers today and afterwards received the Spanish Adiniral abroad as a prisoner of war. From his position on the bridge of the Gloucester, Lieutenant ~ Commander Wainwright watched the flames and smoke rear through the decks of the three greatest battleships of the Spanish navy, which were soon to be reduced to nothing but shattered masts and twisted smokestacks protruding above the water, similar to that other picture in Havana harbor. It was not strange, therefore, that he remark- ed to his brother officer standing beside him, “Tae Maiue is avenged.”

Just then the Pluton and Furor sank. The Gloucester’s boat picked up as many of the survivors as she could find on the shore. The prisoners of war included the captains of both boats. None offered any resistance, aud were glad to go to the Gloucsester,as they feared an attack from the Cubans. A numberof survivors, in- cluding officers of the Furor, who, it was reported, had their legs shot off, were scattered along the coast for some distance and could not be found.
