Grant Boxes.—Mr. Wm. McDonald, the eflicient lighthouse keeper at West Point, has in his possession two fragments of colossal bones, found in the sand near the lighthouse, which are either from the jaw-bone of a large whale or thigh-bone of a mastodon or other monster of old times, They are worth exam- ination. Skulls of the sea cow have been found in good preservation in the same locality.

The oil is apparently of two discriptions—a black cil and an oil of a lighter color. The flow of oil is still uninterrupted. The shale brought up is so infilliated with oil as to burn with a bright flame. —Nevws.

A rooTBaLt matcH, College vs. all-comers, was played at Victoria Park on Saturday, and resulted in the former getting one goal against none for their opponents. The defeat of the latter was partly owing to the careless playing of their goal-keepers, who by the way are sal to he professionals, the one having played on McGill College foot-ball team, and the other on Windsor. The success of the College team ie without doubt due to the inspiring influence of two unpretentious players who have never had the advantage of professional training.

A FAREWELL SOCIAL was given to Mr. and Mrs. Morton, the Trinidad Missionaries, by the Women’s Foreign Mission Society of Halifax on Friday evening last. The meeting was presided over by the Rev. Allan Simpson. The Rev. Dr. Burns in a characteristic speech presented Mr. Morton with an envelope con- taining ¢0—a gift from the Womens Foreign Mission Society. Mr. Morton in acknowledg- ing the present gave a brief address referring to the work being done by the missionaries 1a Trinidad. The chairman called upon Mis. Morton for an address, the lady respon ling in fhe most enjoyable and hearty manner. Encendiary Fires at Sackville.

SacKVILLE, N. B., Nov, 5. Aboat seven o'clock yesterday evening one of the stables owned by Mr. Josiah

Wood, M. P., was found to be on fire, and notwithstanding the greatest efforts were made to get the live stock out, five of Mr. Woods

valuable pure bred cows were burned, The stable contained a quantity of goods stored

there, which with, all the hay feed, ete., was burned. The origin of the fire is a mystery. Strangely

at the same hour last Sunday evening the stable owned by Mr. T. H. Priscott was burned with all its contents. The cause was also unknown. The opinion here is that the fires were both the work of an incendry. Weather Bulletin
