Pasaine Wortutess Biris. — For several jays past, @ couple of men have been en eavoring to pass $5 bills of the Bank of Prince Edward Island, long since defunct. It is not known what success crowned their effort. They made two attempts in one store to pase the same bill, but the proprietress after refusing it the first day recognized the bil the next day. When it was passed to her in peyment of goods she took it, ordered the min cut, and still kept possession of the goods —St. Joho Gazette.

The Concert Last Evening.

Tue concert in aid of the poor, given in | the Lyceum last evening under the auspices | of the Choir of St. Dunstan's Cathedral, was very successful. We understand that this was the first public appearance as vocalists of these young ladies and they made a very favorable impreasion—Miss Smith being presented with a beautiful bou- quet. “The Raine Wine” was sung by | Prof Caven in his own inimitable | & yle; sad = Messrs, Hermans and bull §= added to their high repu tations as vocalists Ly the manner in which they rendered ‘Ihe Muleteer” and ‘‘Anchored.” The solo by Master McInnis was given in an excellent manner. The | instrumental numbers by Mrs. Doyle, the | Misses Benoit and Carroll and the Misses Caven and McMillan were well played. The quartette by the College students was capitally sung; and the choir of the Cath- | edral rendered *‘The Laudate” and “‘Infisme | matus” in an excellent manner—the first men tioned chorus being especially well given. Miss Macdonald’s violin solo was exceedingly well played. The accompaniments were piayed by Miss Caven and Mr. Bianchard, and an efficient orchestra was also in attendance. The siaging of the National Anathem brought the concert te a close.
