Tue Chiefs of Police of the Maritime Pro- vinees have received circulars, in which it is stated that the State of Nebraska will pay $200 for the arrest and conviction of the mur- derer or murderers of one James Quinn. Wil- helm Sproetz, alias William Bak, is the supposed murderer. The murder was com- mitted about 29th September, 1885, on Quinn's farm in Adams county. Sproetz is a German, about 5 feet 4or 5 inches high; age 25 to 30 years; weight 150 to 160 pounds; light com- plexion, hair and moustache ; bow-legged ; speaks broken English.

Many have been puzzled to find the origin of some of the curious names attach- ed to Northwest towns, rivers and _ lakes.
