AFTERNOON SESSION, The most interesting work of this Session consideration of the work and of the ministers who have died during the year. ‘The first name was that of Rev. Robert Duncan, who at one time was stationed on the Pownal Cireuit. A very beautiful obituary which is to appear in the printed minutes was read by Rev. E. Evans. Mr. Duneandied in the 57th year of his age and the 37th year of his ministry. Reference was made by Revs.

The next name was that of Dr. Pickard. An obituary was read by Rev. D. Chap- man. Itreferred to the late minister's

work for education. It spoke of him as being for many years the controlling power in the educational work of the Maritime Provinces. Dr, Pickard’s reception and life long cere of the Supernumary Fund was slso acknowledged. Dr. Stewart, Dr. Pope and Rev. J. Shenton then paid tributes to the memory of the departed minister. Dr. Stewart touched tender chords in many hearts when he adverted to the dying moment's of Dr. Pickard. The tribute paid by Dr. Pope was discriminating and eloquent. Before this subject was taken 1n appropriate hymn was suog and prayer fered by Dr. Stewart and at its close prayer was again offered. It was a peculiarly solemn and profitable time. TEMPERANCE MEETING.

This was held in the evening. The con- gregation was not large, but the meeting throughout was hopeful and helpful. Dr. Pope presided with much grace and effective- ness. Prayer was offered bythe Rev. J Shenton. Rev. G.M Campbeil then read the report and made a stirring address. He was followed by Rev. W. Dobson, who was well received. He attempted to defend temperance logically and philosophically. Then J, Edwards, Esq., of North Wiltshire, spoke earuestly and effectively. His speech was not behind those of the rev. gentlemen. Rev. W. Lawson kept the meeting well in

hand. He is brimful of good humor and pathos. Rev. T. Marshall made a good

speech, though he had not much time. The Sons of Temperance arejwell represented at the Conference. The G. W. P.’s of N. B. and P. E. 1. are both here, while there are ido not know how many P. W. P.’s both | of the Island and of N. B. The president of the Conference was at one time G. W. Patriarch of the Island, as were also the Hon. G. W. Bentley and J. Edwards, Esq. The feeling for probibition is strong and

Rev. D. Chapman brought up his notice of motion that Rev. F. W. Moore be al- lowed the recommendation of P. E. Island that he be reinstated in the Conference.

The point of order was made that only those could be received into the Conference who presented themselves as candidates, or as ministers frum another place, and Mr. Moore filled neither position. The President rujed the resolution out of order. Appeal may be taken from this ruling.
