Student Union to Make Building Donations a Mandatory Fee

A proposal to change the Student Union fee will be presented to the Student Union Council on December 1, 1996. The proposed change would be to make the Sub 2000 donation and Cass donation a fee instead of a refundable donation.

The reasons for these changes are two fold. First, the Student Union has made an agreement with the University to collect $10 each semester for each full time student to assist the University with the Capital Campaign. In return, the Univer- sity will give the Student Union $250,000 towards the Student Centre, as well as further support and assistance in a fund raising goal of $300,000 for the new Student Union Centre. Second, an additional donation of $10 is collected each semes- ter for each full time student this money goes directly to the new Student Union Building. As of Friday, November 1, 1996, 580 students requested their donations back. This puts the agreement the Student Union has with the University in jeopardy. The funding required to renovate Cass is greatly decreased, as is the funding for a new Student Union Building. For these reasons a proposal was put forth to change the donation to a fee.

An information session to discuss the above changes will be held on Wednesday, November 27, 1996, in AVC Lecture Theatre A from 1-2pm. This information session will be moderated by the Student Union Speaker. We encour- age all those interested (students, faculty, administration, alumni, community members) to please make a proposal and have your voice heard. To accommodate this, approximately 10 minutes before the information session those who wish to make a proposal or state concerns can sign their names toa list. During the session all those who have signed the list will be given a chance to be heard.

The council meeting scheduled for December 1 in the Kelley Building, room 210, at 7:00 pm in also open to all students. At that time the issue will be voted on. If you are unable to attend the information session and or council meet- ing, please direct your concerns with your councillors prior to the meeting.

Engineers!

Hello there, all you fellow engineers and engineer- wannabees! If you did not go the Pub Crawl last Thursday, you sure missed out on a great time. It was pretty obvious that everyone was having a blast. We began our evening of adventure at Myron’s where Physics skills were demonstrated on the pool table and dart boards. Then on to Gallow’s where some guys (you know who you are) were crowned the “Kings of Useless Information”! Then we plodded, tripped and stumbled our way into Baba’s Lounge and belted out engineer- ing songs for the entertainment of the staff. But beware, the hummus has sesame seeds!!! Then we made a stop at Island Rock Cafe and guzzled down a few more. We staggered into Lane 15 where we learned the “Hokie-Pokie”. After that, on to the Sports Page for the traditional singing contest. Those who made it to Doc’s were serenaded by a certain intoxicated engineer. The survivors of the night went to Piazza Joe’s for karaoke. Congratulations to Team #5 for their victory!

Well, if you are regretting missing the drunkfest, fear not, another Pub Crawl is scheduled for March. We will see you crawling then.

In other news, be sure to be at the Charlottetown Cin- emas on November 30 at midnight to see The Wall. Just 5 bucks, (of course members save a dollar), and proceeds go to the Engineering Society. Everyone is welcome.

Another wild evening-Come one and come all to the Christmas Pub, December 6 at the Barn. More details later. Stay tuned.

Psych Club

The Psychology Club is trying something new, and we are inviting all Psych students, professors, and anyone else who is interested to join in! “Informal Discussion in Psychol- ogy” is an event that has many benefits for you, including practising presentations and discussion issues that you feel are important. Not everyone has to present. If you do have an idea though, we would hove to hear it. And if you don’t , come anyway, just for fun (did we mention the food?). If you decide you would like to do a presentation, it should not exceed 10-15 minutes. We only have time for three presentation during a session, so please contact a member of the Psych Club execu- tive to reserve your spot. The next session of Informal Discussion is Wednesday, November 13, at 12:30 inthe Psych Lounge.

In other notes, the Psych Club is holding its next general meeting on Friday, November 15, in the Psych lounge, at 1:00 pm. Topics on the agenda include ordering jackets and t-shirts. If you have any ideas or suggestions for the club, please come and voice your opinions. We are having our picture taken for the yearbook at this meeting, so please make a point to be there.

Last but certainly not least, we are continuing to have lunch together on Wednesdays in the cafeteria. We meet in the Psych lounge and the stroll over to the Wanda Wyatt for a good lunch and even better company. Next week we will be meeting at 11:30am. Watch for changing times.
