The Anniversary Of The Presbyterian Church

The hiurray "bour North Presbyterian congregation will cel- ebrate the sixiy-ﬁfth anniversary oi the erection oi its present. church on Sunday. September 5. i948. The present church ediﬁce “as opened ill September". 1883.

The pccplc c-i Murray Harbour North and vicinity enjoyed their first. Presbyterian Church service on July 6. 1806 when the Rev. James MacGregar oi Plctou vis- ited this province and preached in the home oi William Graham oi Gasperesux. Within a few years a thriving congregation was established and a. church was built. which served an extensive territory.

In i883 the congregation was divided and two new churches were built. one at Murray Har- bour North. one mlle east oi the old site. and the other at Peters Road. nve miles west oi it.

Murray Harbour North Church is a. ﬁne example oi rurahchurch architecture. A graceful spire. which can be seen for miles. adds dignity and impressivencss to the edifice. The building has been maintained in an excellent statc o! repair. The interior was re- decorated within the past year. The church was built during the ministry 0i Rev. E. S. Bafyne. The ministers who succeeded him in this pulpit include the following: Rev. Alexandcr Roulsion. Rev. Alexander King. Rev. John Cum- eron. Rev. John Gllils. Rev. D. J. MacDonald. Rev. Andrew Gray, Rev Archibald Sutherland. Rev. J- 5- MBVCKHY- Rev. P. W. Currie. Rev. J.H. Douglas. and Rev. Char- les D. Henderson. the present minister.

Special services marking the elXhy-ﬂith anniversary oi the er- ection o! the church will be held on Sunday. September 5th. 1948. at 11:00 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. Rev. Charles D. Henderson. the present minister. will conduct the mom- ing service of worship. Rev. F‘. Norman Young oi Marshﬁeld will be the guest speaker in the even- lng.) The choir will lead in the service oi praise. The celebration will continue on Monday evening. September 6th. when there will be held an anniversary supper and sacred concert at which the Brooklln Trio WIII be the guest artists.
