Wasnixeton, July 18.—Terms of the surrender sanctioned by Madrid are as follows :

First, declares that all cease pending the agreement to the official

Third, the transportation of troops to Spain at the earliest possible moment each force to be embarked at the nearest port,

Fifth, that after the final capiiulition the Spanish forces shall assist in the removal of all obstructions to navigation in Santiago barbor.

OBITUARY.

Now that the intense excitement which seized the inhabitants of Si. Joseph’s

parish on Sunday‘the 3rd of July, 1898, (tbat never-to~be-forgotten day) has partialiy subsided, and the eleetric pang of grief and woe that so suddenly smote the families of that day’s victims has been soothed by God-given patience and resignation and the kindest offices of sympathetic friends, I offer my emall garland of affectionate eulogy to our depart- ed bretherv. .Suffice it for me to say, ip addition te what bas already appeared in obituary, that “Qwney” Trainer, as he was fawiliarly called, left nota foe in the world. In him was neither guile nor hypocrisy, envy nor rancor, but charity apd justice to all. May the God of Justice, whom he loved and feared in his short life in time, bea God of Mercy andJ ustice to him in eternity. And Thomas W. Monsghan ! Who were his enemies? The writer knows he had none. His ever- -ready, obliging, charitable disposition was incomp:t ble with such a word as enmity. Where was the man whe more quickly responded to the call of the neighbor sn temporal necessities, or to that of the parish priest in church affairs, than Tom Monaghan; when the virtue of charity should be predominent either in assisting the needy, sheltering tle traveller from the storm,or in the more worthy duty of shielding the christian from the woree atorm of calumny, Tom Monaghan spoke and acted in the right time and place. Truly a melaucholy scene was enacted on Tuesday morning the 5thWJuly; in St. Jcsegh’s Churchyard, whea the caskets of our two departed frienda were laid, not six feet apart, surrounded by grief-strieken friends, so sadly, so suddenly bereaved, and hundreds of sym- pathizers of all denominatione, and in the

midst of allour beloved priest performing thesad but teautiful two-fold ceremony of committing “earch to earth,” to await the summons which shai! call us al] together. Mr. Monaghan leaves a heart-broken widow, father and sister on the Island, aod amother, brotherand sister in the United States.
