Even their ballads are memories of ages gone by, and I know of one man who, after riding 200 miles through the mountains for the purpose, finally pick- ed up, from hearing the women sing them, the full 138 verses of an old Scotch ballad which proved to be iden- tical with those recorded in a diary bearing the date 1665.—International Magazine.
