Solicitor General Fitzpatrick’s Bill Relating to the Cabinet.

Orrawa, June 9.—The Hovse went into committee vesterday. Taking up the iron ecbednile in the tariff, Sir Hibbert Tupper addressed the committee in a strong speech of tavo hours on the iron and st<el question. Mr. Fielding if it was proposed to balance these latter reductious by additional! boun- ties over these first proposed, and answered in the negative,

Sir Chas. Tupper then showed that Hon. Mr. Fielding might have entirely changed his pelicy after the budget tpeecb. He wentonto show what infiuences from Ontario and what power Sir Richard Cart- wright used todrive Hon. Mr. Fielding from his original position. Sir Charlies spoke an hour and a half.

Mr. Pell stated that he had just returned from Nova Scotia and regretted to staie that iron and steel manufacturers had notified their employese that a redaction of ten per cent. would have to be made in wages or else the works must close down by reason of the changes in the jron and steel duties.

After, a leogtby discussion relating to wire and nails, Mr. Davin moved that they be free. The motion was lost.

Sir Charles Tuprer will not goto British Columbia after the session ; but will go at once to England.

Jobn A. Kirk has been appointed immigration agent for Nova Scotia with headquarters at Halifax.

Solicitor General Fitzpatrick introduced a bill respecting the Cabinet. There were at present twelve Cabinet ministers and the object of the bill was to make Control- lers members of the Cabinet without any increase of salaries. It was not, Mr. Fitzpatrick said in reply to a question, the intention to abolish the portfolio of trade and commerce.
