Robberies in St. John. Sr. Jonny, Aug. 29. There is ample reason to believe that gangs of skilled burglars are located in this city. On Friday morning last at an early hour the residence of Simeor «nes was broken into. On Saturday morning the burglars—no doubt the same ones-— entered Wm Gievan’s house on Hazen Street and stole therefrom a number of silver spoons, some napkin rings and six dollars in cash. Un Sunday morning they operated on the Carleton side of the harbor, selecting the residence of Joseph Scammell as a place most likely to afford bouty. They secured quite a lot of silverware and about $200 in money. The police are at their wits end and don’t know what to do.

The person afflicted with Cholera, brought to Gravesend in the steamer Guraia from Hamburg, is dead. There are no signs of the disease spreading in Great Britain.

Cholera continues to spread in central Russia, though the mortality is not so alarming. A number of new cases are re- ported in Paris. lo Mamburg, 416 new cases were reported on Friday and 150 deaths up to noon ; on Saturday 728 new cases were reported and 55 deaths.j

Yesterday there were 71 new cases and 25 deaths.in Havre.
