The hangman's record for the past year shows that 03 murderers were hanged in the United States. Of this number 47 were white, 34 colored, | Indian and 1 Chinaman; 4 were hanged for indecent assaults, l for burglary, 5 for wi‘e murder, | for filicide, and 1 for trat rcide. There were 3 double executions, 1 treble, 2 quadruple, and one in which six men were hanged. Nota single woman was hanged; the only one sentenced to death, Mrs. Louisa Lawson of Virg ne, had her sentence commut- ed t> imprisonment for hfe by the Governor.

Several Minnesota farmers put in their spring wheat during the last few days of De- cember, just as we have already announced soise Canadians did. The ex- penditure on capital account will be $418,936. 56, showing a decrease of $24,940.58. The anount voted for refunds in 1877 was $104,- 319.27, which, with a vote of $19,223.87 to complete the services of 1875, made a total of $123,543.14. The amount of the estimate for refunds in 1878 is only $70,713.76, a decrease for this year of $72,829.38. The total amount ot the estimated expenditure for 1877 was $?.616,046.89 ; the total amount for 1878 is 2, 542,353.94, a net decrease of $73,692.95.
