Citizens’ Education Committee meeting

The first meeting for 1942 of the Citizen's Education Committee was Ileld at Prince of Wales College, Friday afternoon. January 30th. 'I‘he president, Major A. R. Bren- nan presided.

Although the impassable condi- tion of the roads kept the out-of- town members from attending the meeting, the members present en- tered into a most interesting dis- cussion as to the trends education- al reforms were taking in the oth- er provinces. Ontario, Saskatche- wan and Nova. Scotia in particular were mentioned as being headlines of the newspapers in this respect.

Statistics obtained from the Dc- partment of Education by Mrs. Gates show that in Prince Edward Island the average W“ P91‘ 11111111 per year, is the lowest in Canada. British Columbia tanks highest with an average yearly cost of $87.- 15 while in Prince Edward Island the average cost per pupil is 832-- 79. ‘These figures, the latest ob- tainabic, are 110i. up to date as in the past several years many pro- gressive (fluxes have taken place in other parts of Canada, especial- ly in the Western Provinces. After British Columbia in a descending scale come: Alberto, Ontario. Manl- foin, Quebec, Nova Sootla, New Brunswick. Saskatchewan and Pl-tlncg Edward Island.
