Touched a Live Wire.
Kixeston, May 18.— Elijah Veale, aged 16, had a lively experienee with @ live electric wire. He wae going home ona wet night, when the hanging wire touched hiin on the shoulder aod gave him a slight shock. He pushed the wire aside and;his left hand became entangiea, and 20 0 volts went through his body. He could not release himself; men tried to pull him away, but were thrown down by the shocks. Relief came when the electric works were not fied and the machinery stopped

Guascow, May 19.--The dock labour- ers employed by ‘he Anchor and Allan line have gone out ona etrike. About 1300 men are idic. Three Aachor line steamers, two Donaldson line vessels, and three seam steamebips of the Allan sine are blocked, The dockers demand 101. per hour instead of 81., the present rate. At a conference the Alfano line cffizials of- fered to givethe men 91., an hour, but the representatives refused to accept thie pr position. At a’eecond confereace, bowever, the Anchor line officials coa- ceded the uemands of the dockers.

Uxcre Tom's Canix.—Stetson’s Uncle Tom’s Cabin Company gave their opening performance at the Opera Hoase laet even- ing to an eudience which fill-d the house. “Uncle Tom’s Cabin” has always been populer in Charlottetown, and that last evening’s rendition was pleasng to the spectators was demonstrated by out- burate of laughterand applaure. Inciden- tal to the presentation there was some very clever buck acd wing dancing, and a southern cake walk, wao'ch were thor- oughly enjoyed. The performance is to be repeated this afternoon and eyening.
