Sometimes she says: ‘‘I’m going to call; I'll take a carriage Jack.”
“Why do!” I answered: ‘‘Roads are bad, And you'll be sooner back.”
At night she asks: ‘‘Why should I spend Five dollars calling, pray?
| took the cars.”” Was I not right To let her have her way’
Year after year, as summer comes, She's sure to say to me—

One Widow and Her Spoons.
There is now residing in Massachu setts a widow past ninety years of age, who tells the following facts of her ex perience usa widow with whom the law dealt. She married young. To furnish her wedding outfit she spun and wove. With the money thus earned she laid in stores of useful things. Silver spoons were among the articles thus bougbt. By these she set special store, for silver spoons in those days were not found in every house.
It was not long before this young wife was a widow. Then the haw,which had given all she possessed to her husband, now interposed again to see that nothing which belonged to the heirs of the husband should fall into the hands of the widow. The spoons belonged to the husband ; they would goto his heirs. The young widow pleaded for her spoons, and it was final- ly agreed that if she would pay the money value of them she might have them. Forthwith she began to spin and weave, und with the money so earned bought back the spoons.
By-and-bye she married a second time, and again the spoons belonged,ac- cording to law, to the second huskand. Again his heirs were entitled to the spoonsand to much besides. But the taking of these cherished articles gave so keen a hurt thatits special pain yet survives. She stilltells how, for the third time, she earned the money with which to pay for those spoons, and how they were conceded to hey only on her ere of their money value. One of
er descendants of the third generation related these facts to me the other day. They are still vivid to the mind of the venerable woman who dwells on the in- justice of the law to women.
The spoons and the personal property of a wife or widow now belong to her,but the husband still has the life-use of the real estate of his wife, and her children often live at great disadvantage, depriv- ed of what is rightfully but not legal- ly theirs. — Woman’s Journal.

Every claim to be addressed to me, at Charlottetown, and subscribed by the party making the same, and to contain the Post Office address of ‘42 applicant.
And further notice is hereby given that, upon the receipt of all such claims, the Com- missioner will tix a time and place for the production of such proofs and the hearing of such evidence as may be necessary severally to substantiate the same.
