Tue Montreal papers boast that the mean- est man on this side of the Atlantic lives in Montreal. He had madea wager with a man named Soper that he (Soper) could not swallow two dozen raw eggs in 20 consecutive minutes. Soper took the wager, but when the time | arrived, Soper found twenty eggs of huge | dimensions staring him in the face. These | were the eggs of a goose. Poor Soper turned | his head in sickeniag disgust, and paid the wager to William Fahey, the meanest man in Montreal. But the Island can boast of a few | mean specimens of humanity. A day or two ago a letter, containing the announcement of a marriage, accompanied with the proper rate, reached this office. The marriage announced was that of Miss Lucy A. Camp- bell to Mr. A. C. Stewart. The account was a bogus one. The joke was a senseless, stupid one, and the sender has unwittingly enrolled himself in the list of the meanest men on this side of the Atlantic.
