The condition of the strike becomes graver hourly. Burns addressed 6,000 men at Tower Hill, giving, as a watchwood ‘‘No urrender.”’ He was cheered tothe echo. Three thousand iron workers at Veigley have struck, and the strikers are boasting that Monday will witness a gigantic amal- gamated strike of workers in every indus- try, unless the ultimatum is accepted Sy noon to-morrow. To Lecrurng.—The Rey. Ralph Brecken, who has been travelling in the Holy Land for the past year, will deliver a very inter- esting Jecture in the Second Methodist Church, on Monday evening next. We clip the following from the Digby Notes, published in an exchange : The Rev. Ralph Brecken favored us with his very popular lectare on the Customs and Cos- tumes of Syria, the hall being crowded to overflowing. Several of the costumes were adoruing the persons of young ladies, while the lecturer himself was attired in a coat of many colors, with all the manifold and unusual trappings of an Arab sheik, dagger, pistols, ink horn, &c., studding the usual oriental girdle.

The New York delegation of the Ancient Order of Foresters letely arrived at Minnea- polis to attend the National Convention there. Chey travelled ina special train, and on one part of the journey made the remarkable speed of 85 miles in 82 minutes or at the rate of over 62 miles per hour.

Orrawa, Aug. 30.

A despatch from Victoria, B. C., says the schooner Pathfinder, which was seized by the United States revenue cutter Rush, has arrived there. The commander of the Rush had placed a seaman on board the Pathfinder and ordered that the vessel be taken to Sitka. After the Rush left the Pathfinder was headed for Victoria, despite

board. Officials of the Marine Department say if it be true that the sealing schooner Black Diamond, though registered in Can- ada, is owned by American citizens, she is liable to be contiseated under the provisions of the Canada Shipbuilding Act.

Disastrous Storms.

North China and Japan have been visited by a series of typhoons of unprecedented severity. At the lowest estimate 15,000 people were drowned.

Advices from Yokohama say disastrous storms recently occurred in Wakayamaya. Five thousand persons perished in the floods following the storms, and 20,000 were rendered homeless. The loss to property is enormous.

The Socials Again Defeated.

Sr. Jonn, N.B. Aug. 30. The Socials were again defeated to-day by the Shamrocks, by a scure of 10 to 1. Davison was hit quite heavily and at most opportune times, while the Socials were unable to find Sullivan, and only twice

found him safely. The visitors put up a much better fielding game today. O’Brien got three beautiful flies in left field. Like

yesterday, the Socials were clearly outplay- ed at every point.
