Much Important Legislation Kept Back.

Uncertainty as to Prorogation—Sir Charles off for Englan d

Orrawa, June 14.—There is great un- certainty about the time of prorogation. While a sort of understanding exists that Saturday wil] be the last day of the session, the situation is complicated by the fact that three important measures, viz., the Crow’s Nest Line, the Montreal Kailway Extension and the Fast Steamship Con- tract have not yet been introduced. The main estimates are not yetthrough. The supplementary estimates for the current year were brought down but are not yet touched, and the supplementary estimates for the coming year are not yet brought down. The tariff is not yet through com- mittee. However Sir Charles Tupper bas taken passage for England asd botn be and Foster have been disp sed to close up work this week if it cau be done without allowing important legislation to pass without consideration and proper criticism. In no session in the history of Cavada has important government legislation been held back as it has been this year. There is a strong kick in the liberal party over the Drummond and Grand Trunk deal. Mr. Cameron, of Huron, Mr. Lester and others, all strong party men, say openiythat they will noi support it. The Fast Steamship Line matter is the firet order of tha day. There will be no serous opposition to this con- tract from the Libera!-Conservative side.

| PRESIDENT FAURE’S ESCAPE

Paris, June 14.—An attempt was made yesterday to resassinate M. Felix Faure, President cf the French Republic, wl ile he was en route to witness the Grand Prix. While M. Faure’s carriage was passing near Lacasiade restaurant, in the Bois de Bzlogne, a bomb of half an inch, charged with gunpowder and swan shot, exploded No oue was injured by the explosion. A man in the crowd, suspected as the prime mover, was arrested. Heis thought to be insane.
