Miss Russell has eugwed the Lyceum for Easter Monday evening for a grand entertainment which will be a musical sketch, “‘A Dress Le- heersal.” This piece takes about an hour and @ quarter to perform, “The Garden of Siaving F.owers,” which was such a tuccess when performed a short time ago, will be r peated by special desire. Sir,—The enclosed letter, although in manner private, is so complimentary and just in its contents, respecting the men engaged by the Dominion Government, to keep up the mail service between the mainland and this Island, after the steamer Stanley fails to make daily return trips, that I wovld take it as only justly due, that yu would give to the public, the opinion of two perfect strangers, upon their first crossing.

Edith, which went ashore at Fox's Point, ten miles east of Halifax, as stated in our despatches of yesterday. At latest ac counts the Edith had not shown any signs of breaking up. We hope that ere this the crew have been safely landed. [From exchanges at hand this afterncor, it is pleasing to learn that Captain Rowe is safe, and that it was by a letter from him that the disaster to the Edith wes communicated to Halifax.

The World thus describes one of the lower province men a rising young Islander : Ald. R. A. Anderson was born in Eldon, P. E. 1, in 1862, of Scotch parents. He has a substantial, practical education, hav- ing been for a considerable length of time en- gaged as a school teacher before coming west to engage in his present business, as a real es- tate and commission’ broker. Mr. Anderson has pcospered io the Terminal City, and is looked upon as one of its leading and most energetic citizens, That the people otf Ward 1 think high!y of him is evidenced by his being elected to a second term at the municipal seat of government.

Tue Lare Frme.—Mr. Philps, the ad- juster, yesterday finished the work of assessing the damage done to Carter & Cu's. goods by the late fire, giving damages amaunting to $3,934.53. The . balance between that amount and the estimated loss represents the value of the goods saved. Their store will be open to morrow for the sale of the goods saved.
