“Well, if you don't call trips for your wife to New York and expen- ses for yourself and doctor and nurses while you were ill in a New York hotel, as compensation for le- gal services, there are probably some who might," observed Mr. White, dismissing the witness.

Mr. Justice Harvey asked the wit- ness if he had practised law for the past 40 years continuously.

‘ “I've meen practising politics

most of the time but incidentally practising law," replied the itucss. "Didn't you know anything about marine law?" asked the commis- sioner. I "No, there was no shipping at Amherst where I was practising."

Major Hugh S. Ralph, Deputy Re- parations Commissioner, was recall- ed by Mr. White and testified that the first time he had ever seen the Allison affidavit was when it was filed before commissioner Harvey in New York. He had rrcvcr seen it in the files in the reparations office.
