Fielding leading the campaign, Mr. Lefurgey came within a few votes of being elected. Indeed, it is firmly believed that he would have been found legally elected had not the re- count which he demanded been frustrated on technical grounds. Ow- ing to the pressing nature of his busi- ness engagements he found it very diffi cult to enter the political arena on the present occasion.
Finding, however, that the hearts of the people were set on his becoming the standard bearer of the party he felt himself impelled to make the ne- cessary sacrifice. While Mr. Lefurgey is esteemed by all parts of the com- muniy he is a_ particular favorite with
unassuming manner. He will undouodtedly redeem East Prince by a handsome majority.

A TIMELY ADMONITION.
DeAR S.k, ~ After Mass, at Si. Ann’s Church, Lot 65, on Sunday, the 7th inst., the pastor Rev. D. B. Reid, took occasion to address a few words of admonition to his congregation, regard- iog the practice, now so prevalent. of buying und seliing votes at elections.
Father Reid explained that he was net -peaking as a politican or in the interests Of any party Or candidate, but sliuply as a priest whose duty it was io 1ustruct his people in their moral oblji- zations aud the duty they owe, as good cil zens, to the State. He pointed out the degrading and demorselizing conse- quences of corrupting the electorate and the danger tothe State and honest Goverament resulting from a purchased vole.
The reverend gertieman then pro- ceeded to explain, in clear and convince - ing language, that it was a mortal sin for an electcr to sell or barter his vote for money vr ior any gift, favor or promise made by, or on behalf of any candidate.
He also clearly explained that it was a morta] sin for an elector to ‘quibbie” about his vote—that is no elector can record his vote for any candidate in consideration of having received a gift, favor or promise from such candidate or any person acting on his behalf, although at the time of receiving such gift, favor er promise the candidate or the person acting for him, may not ask the elector for his vote, +* An elector,” said Father Reid, ‘*may quibble ” about his vote and deceive his neighbors. He may quibble and deceive the candidate. But he cannot deceive Almighty (od."
In concluding the reverend gentle- man then advised his congregation to give no countenance to tie numerous birelings whoare roaming around 1%e country, night and day, aitempting to corrupt and debase the electorate with money and liquor, and exhorted his people to goto the polls as free and independent electorsand as good citi- z2n8, vi te according to the dictates of their conscience for the pirty they con. scientionsly believed would honestly and efficien'ly govern the country.
Father Reid cannot be too highly commended by the press and a!1 good citizans for his seasonable and salutory admonition ; and itis to be hoped that clergymen of all denominations will emulate his good example.
