Proeressive Truero.—Truro is another town that is making good progress. The ag- gregate export and import trade of the past five years has been more than double as great as in the five years previous to the introduc- tion of the National policy, and in the past twelve years the value of assessable property in the town has increased from $800,000 to $1,300,000.

Agvatic.—A Boston despatch of the 13th inst: says ;: ‘‘ James Keenan, of this city, is expected at San Francisco early next week, and itis thought that Wallace Ross will be with him when he reaches there. It is true that Mr. Keenan has expressed a wish to back Ross against Peterson, the California sculler, and itis just possible that the two men will come together before the season closes.”

Satvation Army -Referring to the Sal- vation Army meeting in the Mechanics In- stitute St. John, on Wednesdry evening, the Telegraph says: **The waving of handker- chiefs, the loud prolonged cheers the beating of the drums, the tooting of the instruments and the dancing of Happy Billand Devil Teaser Beattie made a scene at once pleasing and amusing.” The Devil Teaser has been promoted to the rank of adjutant.

Mackenet Sersive ry Caxvican [River.— We regret to inform our Annandale correa- pondent that according to the reading of the inspector of Fisheries, the Nova Scotian re- ferred to has a right to net or seine in Cardi- gan River. The only check might be under section 12, sub-section 2, of the Fisheries Act, which provides that seines and nets shall not be set in such a manner or in such places as to obstruct boat navigation,—which includes boat fishing. The schooner may be sued for any actual damage done to boats at anchor or other wire.

SERIOUS AccrpENts.—Fred, the six year old son of A. A. Tuttle, undertaker, met with a serious and perhaps fatal accident yesterday morning. Mr. Tuttle’s horse was frightened by a shunting engine and ran away, knocking the young lad down and inflicting two gashes in his head with his hoofs. The cuts required l4or 15 stitches. Mr. Tuttle's hired man, Clarence Chandler, went for Dr. Teed on horseback, and while returning was thrown from the horse, whileturning the corner of Lates street, injuring his hips and receiving ‘internal injuries.—AMoncton Times.

Archibald’s Majority, 600. ENTHUSIASM ALONG THE LINE

Haurax, N. 8., Aug. 15. Archibald’s majority in Colchester will | be nearly 600. Fulton polled 260 votes, | with four places to hear from. Truro, N.S8., Aug. 15. Colchester is again true to herself and the Conservative party, having elected Sir Adams Archibald to Parliament to-day by en overwhelming majority. All but four places have been heard from, and Sir Adams’ majority is in the vicinity of 500, The vote cast is much smaller than usual, the farmers being too busy to go to the polls. Neither money nor liquor was used by any party in the election.

National League Report.

Lonpon, Aug. 15. The annual report of the National League of Great Britain was presented to the Birm- ingham Convention to-day. When the League was founded in 1883 there were 52

branches ; this year 595 branches. The financial condition now is seven fold better than it was in 1883. The Parnellites deny that the

object of the action of Parnell and other members of the party against the London Times is to obtain tactical advantages. They say that when the evidence is being taken by the commission of inquiry they will be ready to give evidence without reserve.

Hotel Keeper Mardered.

Montreal, Aug. 15.

Joseph Pilon, hotel keeper at Corteau Lodge, was murdered to-day by a travel- ling agent, whose name is as yet unknown. Pilon interfered in a quarrel between the agent and his (Pilon’s) son, whem the agent fired at him and killed him instantly. The murderer has disappeared and his where- wbouts are unknown. Papers found in his valise identify him as a H. Casea. He was to have been married next morning to a cousin of the same name, and is said to be worth $150,000, amassed in California.

Yellow Fever Again. Sr. Jaco pe Cusa., Aug. 15. Twenty deaths from yellow fever oc- curred inthe city up tothe 28th July. Reports from the territory show an in- creased number of deaths and new cases.

Wasurineton, Aug. 15.

An officisl bulletin from Jacksonville, Fla., to-day shows three new cases of yel- low fever. There have been twenty-eight cases to date and four deaths.

A Crisis in Turkey. Lonpon Aug. 15.

A Crisis is reported in Turkey between the Sultan and his Ministersthe trouble is due to the refusai of the Sultan to sanction the ground Viser’s proposal to borrow 15,00,000 pounds from the Turkish banks. The amount is demanded for the Minister ot War, and Marine to purchase goods and pay soldiers, and seamen’s, wages which are long overdue.
