War Games

'. Last weekend I atttended a presentation, by representatives

_ of the Innu nation, the indiginous

| people of Nitassinan (parts of Labrador and northern Quebec)

about their struggle to stop low— level warplane test flights over their land. They showed great

!ycourage to speak to strangers | about their hardships in oppos- | ing the destruction of their cul- )) ture and way of life.

Our federal government is ex- posing its hypocrisy by invit- ing NATO to use labrador for its training. Mulroney becomes an “environmentalsit” and makes peace propasals to Gorbachov and Bush, while NATO practices offensive War Games, destroying sections of labrador designated as bombing ranges and terrorizing the Innu people with the extreme noise of fighter jets roaring by as

low as 30 meters overhead.

At the same time, Mulroney ignores all pleas and propasals to continue and increase the use- ful work of the Search and REs- cue Squadron at CFB Summer- side. Islanders must not accept plans for huge expenditures of federal money for the militariza- tion (destruction) of Labrador, when Summerside is being sacri- ficed for deficit reduction.

The Innu people have filed for legal injucntions to stop the NATO training program which the federal government intends to announce in December. Dona- tions maybe sent to:
