Scotia, the Pictou Standard says:— The Election on Thursday last has resulted throughout the Province in a large gain for
the Opposition, and of course, a correspond. During the iast House, the largest number of the Ops By the loss of Hants County the number was res duced to eleven, and by the illegal expul- sion of Mr. Woodworth, the session closed with only ten members on the Opposition side; or searcely more than a fourth of the Legislature. At the Election on Thursday, the Opposition gained several counties— the Government not one ; and at this time the Government stands condemned and de feated by the electors of this Province.
In the County of Cape Breton, the Hon. Mr. Ferguson, a member of the Govern- ment, las been defeated by Mr. Mosely. In Antigonish, Mr. Joseph McDonald, one of the most servile of the Government sup- porters, has been defeated by Mr. McKins non. In Colchester, Morrison, another noisy defender of the Government, has got his quietus. The County of Hants has re~ deemed itself, and so have Annapolis and Digby, each sending Opposition represen- tatives, in place of the Government Candi- dates; and Yarmouth leaves Mr. Ryerson at home, and King’s County most nobly re-

Rheumatism and Gout have heretofore been considered by the ordinary practising physicians as incurable diseases, and the query has often been propounded, of what benefit to the helpless sufferer is all their pretended science ; and what doth it avail—their long and tedious course of study—if they are obliged to acknowledge that all their resources are to no account when call- ed upon to prescribe for a patient suffering trom chronic rheumatism.
