Loxpox, March 16.—Lord Salisbury’s illness is more serious than has been ofli-~ cially admitted. His diabetic symptoms were seriously aggravated by over-work. Hence peremptory medical orders that he drop everything notwithstanding the gra- vity of the national crisis and seek reat. It was only by pointing to the hopeless resust of disregarding this advice that the physician induced his noble patient to obey orders. Lord Salisbury’s ‘chief point of regret for his compulsory retirement, at the present moment, is his fear that diffi- culties may arise in the plans which he has carefully developed for a better un- derstacding with Germany espcieally; in regard to far eastern matters, Negotia- ticns have made some progress, and it is understood that the premier has set his heart upon interposing a check of this nature to the Franco-Russian plans.

Rumors of reconstruction of the cabinet are freely bruited about.
