Marseille, 14——Le conseil de guerre permanent du 15e corps d'armée, s’est occupé celte a- près midi, d'uue affaire de re- bellion et outragés à des supé- ricurs dans le service. 11 s’a- gissait du jeune soldat Jean Ancelin, du 40e de ligne, né à Corte, Corse.

Le 25 décembre dernier, An- celincin, ayant trop joyeuse- meut fêté la Noel, rentra à la caserne à minuit complètement ivre. Sous l'influence de l'i- vresse, il injuria le caporal de garde qui lui demandait sa permission de nuit et lui porta même plusieurs coups de poing au visage. Sur ces entre- faites, l’'adjudant de semaine sarvint et ordonna d’écrouer au poste Ancelin, qui l’apostro- pha ainsi : “Espèce de salaud, j'aurai ta tête”.

C’est pour répondre de ces faits que ce sullat comparais- sait devant le conseil de guerre. Les débats ont été fort émouvants. Malgré une cha- leureuse plaidorie de Mtre Emile Michel et l'attitude re- pentante d'Ancelin, celui-ci a été condamné à mort à l’una- nimité. C'est en pleurant à chaudes larmes que le malheu- reux soldat a accueilli ce ter- rible verdict.

OPINION QUE L’ON A A PARIS DE M. LAURIER

Le Journal des Débats, l’un des organes politiques les plus importants de la capitale de la France, Paris, a exprimé der- nièrement son opinion sur le! règlement scolaire Laurier- Greenway.

Cette opinion ne duit pas être considérée comme sus- pecte par nos rouges d'ici, puisque Le Journal des Débats est, lui-même, un journal répu- blicain et radical, mais français avant tout.

Après avoir analysé le règle- ment scolaire Laurier-Green- way, et fait ressortir ce qui est alloué à la minorité catholique et française du Manitoba, le grand organe parisien termine comme suit : |

“1l est certain, en effet, qu'il ne peut sauvegarder en rien la: nationalité des enfants de la minorité française, et qu'il ne réintègre pas les Canadiens- français du Manitoba dans le droit que leur reconnaissait Ja constitution d’avoir des écoles séparées. M. Laurier, le nou- veau premier m.nistre fédéral, de nationalité canadienne, n'a voulu mécontenter aucun mem bre de sa majorité, tout en se donnant le mérite d'avoir reso-| lu la difficile question scolaire | du Manitoba. 1l est certain qu’ il ne peut mécontenter les an- glais par le compromis qu'il propose, mais il abandonne les intéréts de sa propre mationali .”

Si l’on a pu, le 23 juin der- nier, applaudir en France à l’arrivée à la tête des affaires au Canada d'un homme d'état d'origine française, il est visi- ble, aujourd’hui, que nos ainés de là-bas sont maintenant bien désenchantés par le premier acte que vient de jouer M.
