A goon audience greeted Rev. Mr. Neal at the Christian Meeting House, Upper Great George street, yesterday afternoon. The sub- ject—‘‘The unpardonable sin; or, sin against the Holy Ghost, what is it ? How committed,” —-was presented in a logical and thorough manner, and elicited marked attention. The subject for this evening’s discourse is ‘‘Pro- phecy.” The public is most cordially invited. Services every evening this week.

We learn that Mr. H. Mutch has been awarded the contract for per forming the work, and that he intends to com- imence operations on arrival of the divers.

THat Moncton morality is not so bad as it might be, i§ shown by the fact that a lady who bought $12 worth of goods on July 12th, and after taking considerable wear out of them, brought them back a few days ago, and taking $1 from a roll. of bills, offeredityas an equiva- lent. The equivalent being refused, she prom- ised to pay in two or three days. It is feared that the promise is worth less than the dollar.

The writs for the return of a member to re- present the First istrict of Prince County in the House of Assembly, have been issued, Nomination day will be Friday, the 12th inst., and polling day Friday, the 19th. The Pro- gress says Mr. J. I’. White will probably be a candi late. gHe claims to be a supporter for the present Government. Several other gentle-

men have been mentioned as seeking to serve’

A GORRESPONDENT remarks :—’‘Having had occasion to walk near one ef the most public docks in the city on Sunday, I was witness to a most dinarosebal scene. There, in the bright- ness of day, a crowd of persons was engaged in the pleasant practise of swimming, or what { would rather call- washing themselves. Goodness knows some of them had need of such @ process, and as a citizen, I would be willing to make all reasonable concessions in their favor, provided they sought a more se- cluded place than Connolloy’s Wharf at 2.30 of a Sunday afteznoon.”

Josep GALLANT and four others appeared before Theoph. DesBrisay, Alex. Haygen and Peter McGowan, Hsqrs,. J. P’s., on Saturday last on complaint of Robert Bullman, for as- sault. Mr. Peters appeared for the plaintiff, and Messrs, Sullivan and Fitzgerald for the defendants. The facts of the case are: That on the day of the Governor-General’s recep- tion at Rustico, the plaintiff and his brother rode through an arch which was erected by the sons of Acadia. The defendants being mem- bers of the Reception Committee, forbade] the plaintiff driving through the arch, but they drovethrough in detiance. When they returned in the evening the horse was seized by the com- mittee, beaten with sticks, it is asserted, and the drivers were pulled from the sulkey and ill-used. ‘Lhe object of forbidding the plain- tiff's driving through the arch is supposed to be an old grudge between the parties con- cerned. After examining several witnessel the case was adjourned till Saturday next.

Tue Fredericton Star has the following des- cription of Fredericton ; ‘‘Fredericton is the capital of New Brunswick, and has a popula- tion of nearly 6,000 souls (and many cows). It is situated on the right bank of the River John, 84 miles froi the city of St. John. In it tlie Local Legisiature meets every year to make local laws for the people. The inhab- itants as a rule are white, and fairly civilized. enjoying free schools and Christian training and all thatind o{ thing. It is true the name ef the city is not painted anywhere in letters on any corner of it : but forall that people call - ae aud we are willing to let it go at that.” ;
