* * 'k * * * * * * * * ‘* * * COMING EVENTS MAY MEETING. The final meeting of the season will be held on Tue. May 4 at 8 p.m. in the Provincial Health Building. Program will feature a showing of slides submitted to the annual Nature Slide Contest followed by the presentation of prizes to the winners. These slides represent some of the best pictures of some of our best photographers and are always of excellent quality. Circle the date on your calendar now, and then on May 4 be sure to come and bring a friend. Let's put forth a

special effort to assure that the last meeting of the season will be the biggest and best of the year. Lunch will be served.

ENVIRONMENT WEEK. This year's Environment Week is scheduled for May 8—21, with the Women's Institute annual Clean—up Day set for Sat. May 8. All members are encouraged to participate in this worthwhile effort.

The Natural History Society is planning two events to mark Environment , Week. - BONSHAW HILLS. Reserve Sat. May 8 to enjoy a pleasant hike through the early spring woodland and at the same time help clean the trail of winter debris. A garbage bag and a small hatchet would be handy. FILM NIGHT. Come and enjoy an evening of nature films for the whole family. Watch the newspapers or contact Rosemary Curley for details of time and place and a list of films to be shown.‘

INDIAN RIVER AND CAPE TRYON. Each spring the National Wildlife Area at Indian River is one of the best spots in the province to find the greatest variety of migrating and nesting duck species. Meet at the YMCA in Charlottetown at 9 a.m. or at the Indian River Sanctuary at 10 a.m.

on Sat. May 15. In the afternoon we will proceed to Cape Tryon to observe Great and Double—crested cormorants nesting on the high cliffs

of the cape. Dress warmly. Bring a lunch and binoculars. Field trip leader is Geoff Hogan (892-4121, ext. 170).

FRANCIS BAIN BIRDATHON. .The fifth annual Francis Bain Birdathon will be held on Sat. May 29. All birds recorded during the 24 hours of the day are eligible to be counted. Also please note any additional species observed during the 3 days before and after the Birdathon day. Contact the organizer Geoff Hogan at 892—4121 (ext. 170) for information on available counting areas so that counters will be well distributed across the whole province. A pot-luck supper at 6 p.m. is planned to conclude the day (details from the organizer).

VALLEYFIELD WOODLOT. The trails through the Dept. of Agriculture and Forestry demonstration woodlot are an excellent place to take in the smells, sights and sounds of spring. Migrating warblers and early spring wildflowers should be abundant. You wil‘xalso see first hand some of

the management techniques practised to make the woodland valuable for both recreational and commercial purposes. Meet at the Y in Charlotte— town at 9 a.m. on Sat. June 12 or meet at the woodlot (call field trip leader Sid Watts at 838—3448 for directions). Bring a lunch.
