Next of Kin is a movie which mixes downtown Chicago with downhome country life. It fea- tures Patrick Swayze as Detective

Truman Gates, a man with the -

city in his hands and the country in his heart. The movie begins with Detective Gates displaying his down-to-earth detective style by apprehending an out of control country boy. The movie then fo- cuses on an Italian, Chicago fam- ily which in the proccess of try- ing to steal a truck kills the truck driver, Truman Gates’ brother. From here the movie takes off, we see Truman torn between two worlds; one of upholding the law, the other a fierce family loyalty where murder is avenged.

Next of Kin is a mofia syle show between two differnt types of people, the Italians who want material things and the Hill- Billys who just want to be left

alone in the hills. When the Ital- ian family steals the truck and kills Truman’s brother they meet with a family loyalty as strong as ther own. Sence Truman dosn’t seem to want to do any- thing about his brothers death, their older brother comes down to avenge the death of their brother. Truman tells them that the law will get the person responible but his brother won’t listen and ends up getting killed. Truman’s boss says that the Italian family may

as I try to imagine throught films, books of fame.

I catch only a glimse of what men had to suffer

young soldiers sent out, leav- ing youth , land and mother.

As we gather to honor our gal- lant, strong fathers

may we also remember the fear, death and slaughter.

May their memories live on, to remind us of war.

Let us pray that man lerans to make war no more!

24 Hours of

Continuous Music!

The Music Society is at it again! Earlier in the year we had a carwash and we said to keep an eye out for us because we would

_ be up to something new before long.

As a fundraiser for the Mu- sic Society Scholarship fund, we are holding our second annual Play—a-thon on Friday, Novem- ber 17th. You are probably ask- ing yourselves, “What is a play— a-thon?” Well, a play—a-thon is 24 hours of continuous mu- sic of varying styles. The event will be starting at 1:00pm on Fri- day afternoon and proceeding un- til 1:00pm Saturday afternoon.

Different styles of music will include different ensembles, jazz

and classical to name a few. Some of the highlights of Friday

evening will include the 4:30 So- ciety Challenge to all non—music societies and clubs to send a rep- resentative to make an attempt at conducting our jazz lab. At 7:30 pm, the UPEI jazz band will have an open rehearsal until 9:00 pm from 9:00pm to 9:30 a jazz trio will be performing. At 10:00, Charlottetown’s own Curfew will be performing. Come on out for an evening of musical enjoyment!

The official opening cere- monies for the Play-A-Thon will begin at 1:15 pm, Friday with President Elliot conducting the first piece by our Choral lab. Lo- cal dignitaries have been invited to attend these ceremonies. Local media may also be present. Be sure to make the 17th and 18th of November on your calendar. Hope to see you there.
