Metal shares were weak through- out the day but demand (or other groups, notably ‘a few textiles and specialties, gave the list a stronger appearance-v Profit-taking sales made their appearance in the last hall-hour, however, to iorce quota- tions lower.

Consolidated Smelters sold down to 214 where it held a loss of 2 points while International Nickel was of! 1% at 43% and Ncranda 1i at 45%. .

Analysts explained the drop by pointing to continued confusion sur- rounding the U. S. treasurrs silver policy. h-csh unrest over peace ne- gotiations abroad and reported ii-

The situation in silver apparently prompted s. call ior gold shares. McIntyre gained 1 '1-8 at 41 1-4 and Alaska. Juncau picked up 1-4 at 15 l-B.

Lake Shore was up about a point. Elsewhere in the Canadian list prices were generally lower. Losses oi less than a point occurred in Dlstlllers-Seagrams, Ford oi Can- ncic and Dome Mines. St. Rcgis Paper prcicrmd continued its wide fluctuations, dropping 4 1-2 points.

Oils were in demand throughout the session on reports of some pricc improvement for gasoline and hoph in some financial quarters oi an advance in crude oii prices. Tide Witter Associated reached a new 1035 high and closed up 3-8 at 13.
