UPEI moves up in Macleans Rankings

Macleans Magazine had recently released its 2004 ranking on Canadian Universities. Schools were categorized into three separate groups consisting of primarily undergraduate, comprehen- sive and medical/doctoral universities. The ranking is arguably subjective, however there is a complex formula involved which takes a measure of the university experience along with class sizes, average grades, faculty members with Ph. Ds, library resources, and reputation to name a few. This year’s ranking showed UPEI clinched the number 8 spot. This is an increase in position from 2003’s ranking of 9" in Canada. St. FX was ranked the first in the undergraduate category, the Uni- versity of Waterloo placed first in the comprehensive category while the University of Toronto capture top spot in medical/doctoral with McGill trailing in second place.

Student Exchange Information Session Coming Up

Is the Island not doing it for you anymore? Student Services will be putting up a display and information on Student Exchange Programs on Tuesday, November 16 and Thursday, November 18, from 1 to 4 p.m. in the W.A. Murphy Student Centre concourse. These sessions will be ona drop-in/pass-by basis. Students are invited to come and find out about the exciting exchange opportunities that are available. Writer-In Residence Sessions To Be Held

Have you any written pieces you’d like to discuss with an acclaimed writer and photographer?

Sure, it may sound a bit daunting, but Freeman Patterson, UPEI’s Writer-in Residence, will go easy on you. He will be available during the week of November 22 - 27 for ten one hour long individual sessions. Interested writers must submit to competition the writing they hope to discuss, for adjudication by the Lucy Maud Montgomery Institute. Arranged Writer-in-Residence appointments will be held on campus. A public presentation by Freeman Patterson will be held Friday, November 26, in the lecture theatre of the K.C. Irving Building, at 7:30 pm. Further details are available from Elizabeth Deblois (628-4346), Director of the L.M. Article 2b - Membership Fees

b. Students 65 and over shall be exempt from paying the MAPUS fee.

b. Students 60 and over shall be exempt from paying the MAPUS fee.

DDENDUM As of September 1, 2004, MAPUS

fees for Part-time students has increased to $10.00 per course, per semester to a maximum of $20.00.

Safety Fair

On Wednesday, November 17, from 10:00am to 3:00pm, there will be a safety Fair held in the W.A. Murphy Student Centre. The Fair is part of a nation wide campaign to heip inform and educate students about such things as drugs, alcohol and personal safety. Many groups and departments from across the University and general public will be setting up information desks in the courtyard on Wednesday.
