At Sir John’s Grave.

Orrawa, June 7.—Within four days of the time Jimit under the constitution, the two Acts of the British Columbia Legisla- ture, probibiting Japanese and Chioese from being employea ov any public work in that province executed under provincial charter have been disallowed. One is a general statute embodying the foregoing principle, the other is an Act relating

to trainways, which also places a ban upon the Celestial and the Japs. The action of the

Government is the direct outcome of the request of the Imperial authorities, as Japan had the leg‘slation, strongly protest- ed against, and the interests of Britain in the East will best be maintained by hold-~ ing the friendship of the Japanese authori» ties. In the opinion of the Home author- ities the legislation would aleo be detri- mental tothe best itterests of Canada. The steamer Halifax leaves Boston for Corariottetown every Saturday at noon and will be due at Charlottetown on Monday night. On the following Tuesday at one she will leave On return to Boston. Hali- tax and Port Hawkesbury are called at every trip. Passengers may take the steamer aiany of the ports mentioned. The Halifax wiil be supplemented by the Grand Duchess later ir the eeason.

The steamer City of Ghent plys between Halifax and Charlottetown each week, calling at several porisen route. She is due here every Thursday.
