Mr. William SSteele and Harry Llewellyn, Montague. motored to New Glasgow via Wood Islands Ferry on Saturday for a load of commodities for Poole & Thomp- son.

Horsemen will be interested in learning that Mr. Johnny Gay has purchased "Sue City Sue," with which he hopes to make a good showing on the Island tracks next summer. Mr. Gay has his racer stabled at the Annear andlowrey stables. where he is putting her through an intensive training. Mr. Gay has always been an en. thuslastic horxman. and many will be waiting for his showing next summer.

As the gray dawn broke over the landscape. two intrepid hunters bore with spartan vigour the cold blasts of north winds, and huddled IOWQT in their shaky craft for shelter. As the heavy mists slowly dispelled. heads were cautiously raised above the gunwale for a glance at the flock of black ducks which ﬂoated gently on the quiet Brudenell River. The gunners carc- iully mariouvered their craft so that they might present a broad- side attack on the luckless ducks which had chosen that place for a quiet. rest When all was in pre- PB-Tedneﬁﬁ. the hunters cautiously rose to take aim with their trusty firearms. but. the ducks sensing danger rose on the wing. and ivith four shots one wounded stayed on the water. Abandoning now all caution. the pair shipped oars and paddled furiously to catch their quarry. However, each time the boat approached. the duck would dive, and lead them on another merry chase. Unknown to the adventurers, another pair of eyes were gleefully watching this mad churning of the water as they tore after their quarry. With many expostulations of wrath. the one would direct the other to the new appearance of the elusive duck ‘which by now had his pursurers well in hand. Finally the oarsman arose. threw a shell in the gun. and let. blaze. Again the duck went down. amid the explosive sounds of frustration of the two boatmen. Then came the climax. the duck having eluded his pursuers, land- ed in the cove near the watchers, who carefully took aim, and walked home with one black duck. leav- ing the two stlll paddling in search of the lost quarry. —Lan.

The regular meeting of the Al- monte Young People's Union was held in the classroom on Monday night. The meeting opened with the devotional period led by Blanche Hume. The scripture lesson was read by Minnie Greene. This was followed by the business Period with the vice-president, Ruth Fraser, presiding. It was de- cided to order twenty United Church calendars for the members and a. copy of the Upper Room was distributed to each member. Roll call was answered by l6 mem- bers. The program for the evening [was under the charge of Mr. V.R. tPeblller. He gave a very inter- lesting and instructive talk on iphotozraphy. during which he de- ,veloped some pictures.
